Hampshire pair Lewis McManus and Tom Alsop have signed new deals that will see them remain at the club until at least the end of the 2019 season.

The duo’s contracts were due to expire at the end of next season, but both players have now committed to the club for the next three years.

McManus began his tenure with the club as part of the Hampshire Academy and Second XI and, following impressive performances behind the stumps for the youth side, he was rewarded with a First XI debut in 2015.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has continued to impress since, particularly in red-ball cricket, enjoying a breakthrough 2016 campaign as the side’s first-choice keeping option.

McManus, 22, totalled 439 runs at an average of 37.92 in his 11 first-class matches this season, including a superb 132* against Surrey in July.

He also claimed 41 dismissals in all formats this season, with the glovesman showcasing his ability behind the stumps throughout the year.

McManus said: “It means a lot to commit to Hampshire for another three years and it’s nice to repay the faith they’ve shown in me.

"It was a no-brainer to stay with the club that I’ve grown up in and around and I’m pleased that I have the opportunity to continue working with coaches and players that I’ve built friendships with.”

Alsop, who also graduated through Hampshire’s youth setup, made his first-class debut in 2014 before enjoying a successful 2015 season alongside McManus in the Hampshire Second XI.

The left-hander also made his England U19 debut in 2015, in which he hit a half-century against Australia U19 in a Youth Test.

The 2016 season saw Alsop feature prominently for the First XI as he struck more than 1,200 runs across all formats in the 2016 campaign, including recording his maiden first-class and List A centuries.

The youngster proved to be a crucial component of the top-order in the Specsavers County Championship, contributing six half-centuries and a century in his 13 first-class matches whilst also impressing in both limited-overs competitions.

Alsop averaged more than 54 in seven 50-over fixtures including two fifties and one century, whilst also helping Hampshire record a win in the NatWest T20 Blast contest against Somerset, striking a quick-fire 85 at the top of the order.

He said: “I’m delighted to put pen to paper on a new three year contract with Hampshire. The club have certainly got a bright future and I’m pleased to be able to continue to be a part of something special here at the Ageas Bowl.”
