HAMPSHIRE all-rounder Liam Dawson finished fifth in the Professional Cricketers’ Association Most Valuable Player Rankings.

The England limited-overs international ended a fine season with a place in the top five behind Jeetan Patel, who won his second PCA MVP title in three years, Tim Bresnan, Keaton Jennings and Joe Leach.

Dawson was Hampshire’s top run scorer in both white-ball competitions.

He excelled in the Royal London One-Day Cup, his 359 runs at 71.8 including his maiden one-day century for Hampshire.

The 26 year-old also bowled more overs than any Hampshire player while taking eight wickets with an economy rate of just 4.25 to earn a place in England’s squad for the forthcoming tour of Bangladesh.

He also made 299 T20 runs at 29.9 and took 19 wickets in the shortest format - more than twice as many as any other Hampshire bowler.

Warwickshire off-spinner Patel, recently recalled by New Zealand, finished with 564 points after taking 102 wickets across all forms of the game, 69 of which were taken in the Championship.

Yorkshire all-rounder Bresnan finished on 520 points after a best-ever return of 57 in the Championship decider against Middlesex at Lord’s (142 not out, 55, 3-48).

Durham opener Jennings scored seven hundreds, two of which were doubles, and was the Championship's leading run-scorer with 1548 runs. Across all forms he scored exactly 2000, 1477 more than in 2015.

Worcestershire’s Joe Leach scored 841 runs and took 94 wickets across all forms.
