HAMPSHIRE put themselves on course for quarter-final spot in the Royal London One-Day Cup with a remarkable thrashing of Glamorgan in Swansea.

Skipper Liam Dawson completed his maiden List A century for the county as Hampshire rattled up 316-5.

A remarkable spell of seam bowling from Ryan McLaren and Gareth Berg then reduced Glamorgan to 29 for six as they suffered a 186-run defeat at Swansea.

The Welsh side recovered, but were all out for 130 with 18 overs remaining.

Glamorgan made the worst possible start to their chase when David Lloyd was leg before to McLaren's first ball of the innings and, despite the slow pitch, the Hampshire seamers repeatedly caused problems as Jacques Rudolph and Will Bragg edged balls to wicketkeeper Lewis McManus.

Colin Ingram, who struck two limited-overs hundreds against Essex last week, was the next to go when he top-edged a hook off Berg to fine-leg without scoring.

When Graham Wagg was leg before to a perfect yorker from Berg, the home team had lost five wickets for nine runs, with Berg taking four for two from 16 balls.

There were ironic cheers from the sizeable crowd in the 15th over when Mark Wallace became the first Glamorgan batsman to reach double figures by driving Brad Wheal the boundary.

Wallace's resistance ended on 21 when he was caught behind off Gareth Andrew, who then had Andrew Salter held at slip next ball as he started his spell with a double-wicket maiden.

Craig Meschede top-scored with 45 and his partnership of 30 with Tim van der Gugten enabled Glamorgan to pass three figures, but it was little consolation for the home supporters.

McLaren returned to have Meschede and van der Gugten caught in the deep as the South african finished with four for 42, while Berg's 10 overs yielded four for 25.

In complete contrast, Hampshire scored freely after winning the toss, with Will Smith, Tom Alsop and McLaren sharing useful partnerships with Dawson, who accelerated towards the end of his innings to reach three figures with a six off the last ball.

His runs came from just 68 balls, with three fours and four sixes, as 84 runs were plundered in the final six overs - McLaren adding 33 from 17 deliveries before holing out off Wagg.

Earlier Alsop, who has struck a hundred and three fifties in the competition this season, made a fluent 35 before chipping Meschede to mid-on while Smith made the most of being dropped on 23 at midwicket off Salter to score 84, and share an important partnership of 86 with Dawson for the fourth wicket.
