JAMES Vince was the victim of a cruel umpiring call on his Pakistan Super League debut - but the Karachi Kings still won their first match.

The Hampshire captain was furious to be given lbw for three to slow left-armer Zafar Gohar.

Replays showed that the ball hit his pad via a big inside edge.

But Karachi still beat Chris Gayle’s Lahore Qalanders by seven wickets in Dubai.

Vince caught Gayle for six at long-on, after the West Indian tried to launch Shoaib Malik’s off-spin for a maximum in the first over, as Lahore were restricted to 125-8.

Mohammad Amir took 3-27 for Karachi and West Indian opener Lendl Simmons hit an unbeaten 62 as they chased the runs down with 25 balls to spare.

Vince is in action again tomorrow, against the Quetta Gladiators, and takes on Islambad United on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Michael Carberry hit Justin Kemp’s seamers for two sixes in three balls at the Masters Champions League in Sharjah.

But the Hampshire batsman was bowled by the South African for a seven-ball 14 as the Sagittarius Strikers lost a high-scoring encounter with the Gemini Arabians by 12 runs.

Muttiah Muralitharan took 3-38 as the Strikers were restricted to 212-9 in reply to the Arabians' 224-7.

Sean Ervine was out for nine after being promoted to number three as the Libra Legends were restricted to 154-7 by the Capricorn Commanders.

The Hampshire beneficiary was stumped off Jeetan Patel after hitting the Kiwi off-spinner and Sri Lankan leg-spinner Upul Chandana for a boundary apiece.
