LIAM Dawson is aiming for a series-clinching victory for James Vince's England Lions after his match-winning performance against Pakistan A in Dubai.

The Hampshire all-rounder, having taken 1-17 from three overs as Pakistan A were restricted to 116-9, made an unbeaten 37 (35 balls, two fours, one six) as the Lions recovered from 9-3 to win with five wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Vince was caught behind for a four-ball duck, one of two early victims for left-armer Junaid Khan (4-1-9-3).

But Dawson, whose unbeaten 45 could not prevent Pakistan A from going 2-1 up in the series two days earlier, put on 94 from 80 balls for the fourth wicket with Sam Billings (61*).

He was stumped against fellow slow left-armer Kashif Bhatti in the 17th over, but the hard work had been done.

Dawson said: "There was a bit of pressure on when I came in (9-3). Throughout my career I haven’t batted much in Twenty20 cricket in the top five – I’ve usually been down at seven.

"So to come in during the powerplay was nice, having the chance to contribute properly.

"Me and Sam decided that if we could bat a good amount of time we were always going to win the game, because it was a low total to chase, and that’s how it turned out."

Dawson tops the Lions batting averages with 98 and is the most economical bowler over the four games (6.41 runs per over).

"It’s been a decent tour for me so far, with the ball as well," he said. "The wicket probably spun more yesterday so it was a bit easier to bowl on.

"We’ve got one more practice session back at the ICC Academy tomorrow, where we played the first game and we’re back there for the last game as well, after three under floodlights at the stadium.

"If we can win the last one and win the series after being 2-1 down, that would be a nice way to go home."
