HAMPSHIRE teenager Felix Organ struck an unbeaten century as the academy thrashed the Australian women’s team at The Ageas Bowl.

The 16 year-old made 101 not out (70 balls, 12 fours and two sixes) as the academy amassed 344-5 in their 50 overs – before winning by 99 runs.

Brad Taylor hit a 91-ball 78 (six fours, one six) while sharing an opening stand of 127 with Elijah Samuel (54).

Captain Andy Gorvin (two) did not last long as Hampshire slipped to 152-3.

But Jake Goodwin hit a run-a-ball 43 (four fours, one six) and Organ, pictured left, held the second half of the innings together.

After losing Josh McCoy for a 16-ball 22, he put on an unbroken 70 from Hampshire’s last 27 balls with wicketkeeper-batsman Harry Hovey, who needed only 13 deliveries for his unbeaten 28.

Off-spinner Organ then took 3-63 from his nine overs as the Aussie girls were restricted to 245-8 in reply.

Aussie captain Meg Lanning (59) was one of only two batters to pass 50, with Organ taking two wickets in the final over, including that of Alex Blackwell (54).

Opening bowler Tristan Alsop (9-1-34-0) impressed and there was a wicket apiece for McCoy (8-0-37-1), Ryan Murray (7-1-22-1) Tom Scriven (6-1-12-1) and Gorvin (4-0-27-1).

Off-spinner Taylor, Hampshire’s youngest debutant since 1867, did not bowl.

The Women’s Ashes begins with the first of three one-day internationals at Taunton on Tuesday.

The one Test match will be played at Canterbury in mid-August and be followed by three Twenty 20 internationals.

Limited-overs wins are worth two points.
