HAMPSHIRE legend Trevor Jesty has unveiled a new board at The Ageas Bowl celebrating the county’s Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

The former Hampshire and England all-rounder unveiled the board on the first floor of the Arlott Atrium during the tea interval on the second day of the recent LV County Championship match against Somerset.

Hampshire is the sixth of the 18 counties to display a board naming the recipients of the award, at the request of Wisden.

Gosport-born Jesty is one of 16 Hampshire cricketers to have received it. He was a recipient, along with county teammate Malcolm Marshall, in 1983, following his best season in the County Championship (1,645 runs at 58 and 35 wickets at 21 apiece).

Jesty made all ten of his England appearances at the beginning of 1983, earning a place in that year's World Cup squad

Following the unveiling, he said: “It’s an honour not only to be here but to be on the board alongside so many illustrious names.”

Dave Allen, Hampshire’s honorary archivist, said: “It was particularly fitting that Jesty should unveil the board. Not only is he one of those named but he is one of just two men on it born within the county, the other being Peter Sainsbury.”

Hampshire’s Wisden Cricketers of the Year (recipients can only be awarded the accolade once): 1900 Major Robert Montagu Poore; 1911 Charlie Llewellyn; 1912 Phil Mead; 1914 Hon Lionel Tennyson; 1933 Alec Kennedy; 1959 Roy Marshall, Derek Shackleton; 1969 Barry Richards; 1974 Peter Sainsbury; 1975 Andy Roberts; 1977 Gordon Greenidge; 1983 TrevorJesty, Malcolm Marshall; 1984 Chris Smith; 1990 Robin Smith; 2006 Kevin Pietersen.

Wisden, the cricketers’ annual almanack started by John Wisden in 1863, named six bowlers of the year from 1889, before naming their five Cricketers of the Year based on noteworthy performances the previous season.
