Hampshire fast-bowler Andre Adams has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

The 39-year-old has called time on his career following a 17-year career in which he took 692 first-class wickets at 23.96.

He took nine of those at 39.88 in three LV County Championship appearances for Hampshire before being advised to retire after suffering a badly torn calf muscle.

Adams, who will be 40 next month, said: “For somebody who didn’t expect to play first-team cricket for my club, it’s been a lot longer than I ever thought I’d play.

“It’s a nice time to do it and I’m still able to walk which is important at the end of your career.

“I’ve had a fantastic time at Hampshire; it’s a great county with a lot of top guys who are really talented.”

Former New Zealand international Adams will now return to Auckland to concentrate on his coaching career.
