Tottonians were given a stern test by the only side to have beaten them this term – but they came through it with a bonus point win.

The London 2 South-West home victory over Old Alleynians maintained the leaders’ six-point cushion over London Cornish, who also won at the weekend.

There were 11 tries between Totts and Alleynians in the high-scoring and entertaining clash at Water Lane.

The visitors showed their intent from the off and went 5-0 up when they overturned a Tottonians scrum.

But Totts hit back with four tries before the break to turnaround 29-12 up. Full-back Stuart Davis got the first two, Ieaun Williams scored the third when he touched down after a series of touch-and-goes and wing Scott Rogers brought up the bonus point try.

As it turned out, Totts needed that first-half dominance after they were outscored three tries to two over the remaining 40 minutes.

Tottonians did move to 36-12 when Davis brought up his hat-trick but Alleynians battled back to within ten points before centre Richard Buck relieved the pressure by touching down.

Robbie Searle accounted for 13 of Tottonians’ points.

Totts’ coach, Gavin Williams, who named Rogers as man of the match and had special praise for Davis and prop Tom Gregory, said: “Several people said they thought it was a good game for a neutral to watch but from a selfish point of view I wish we had held them out a bit more.

“They are a good attacking side and are the only team to have given us a problem in defence. They are good to watch.”

He added: “We knew this game would be tough and I am glad to get it out of the way.”
