There was little let-up in the battle at the top of London 2 South-West with Tottonians and the chasing two teams producing bonus point wins.

Totts ran in six unanswered tries as they won 40-0 at Old Reigatian.

The home side buckled after 15 minutes when centre Mike Searle went over under the posts and soon after regular try scorer Ali Ramus was there to pick up the pieces when another backs’ move fell just short. Winger Scott Rogers got the first of his hat-trick to give Totts healthy half-time lead.

After the break Robbie Searle brought up the bonus point when he supported a maul and came out with the ball before touching down.

Rogers piled on the misery for Reigatian – placing the ball in the corner before repeating the score in the same spot minutes later.

Robbie Searle kicked five conversions.

Third-placed Winchester also helped themselves to half-a-dozen tries at Portsmouth in their 36-16 victory as they continue to press for promotion.

Winch replied to an early penalty from the home side when the ball eventually landed in the hands of prop Alex Lee following a maul.

Winger Tom Forester increased the lead when a kindly bounce allowed him to sprint over in the corner.

Winchester conceded a couple more penalties in the first half but a try from second row Matt Golding meant they turned around 19-9 up.

Pompey wing Ed Hopkins gave his side hope with a converted try after the break but they never did return to the scoreboard.

Flanker Chris Keegan brought up Winchester’s bonus point, Golding went over for the second time and Forster finished off a great break from Purvis get his brace.

Johnny Morris kicked three of the six tries.

“We’ve got a big pool of talented players at Winchester, and I really enjoy coaching them”, said coach Andy Fields.

“But they can be a frustrating bunch at times. We would have scored two or three more tries in that game, and we wouldn’t have conceded Portsmouth’s try, if we had kept our shape and been less impatient.

“A month ago, we were averaging five tries per game, and now that’s down to just over four. If we’re going to give ourselves a chance of promotion, we must get our average back to that level or better as the weather improves.”

Second-placed London Cornish made sure there was no change at the top when they walloped Effingham & Leatherhead 56-0.
