Millbrook may have been the latest team to lose out to unbeaten Hampshire 1 leaders US Portsmouth – but the two points they picked up from their battling performance could be important at the end of the season.

Third-placed Brook lost out 32-27 at home to the Services’ side but secured a couple of points from the hard-fought encounter – one for scoring four tries and another for being within seven points of their victors.

Captain Mike Randell got two of Millbrook’s four touchdowns with Mike Trench and Barney Jones getting the others. Rich Colmer kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Randell said: “We put in a strong performance against US today and there is some disappointment that we didn’t come away with a win, as it was within our reach.

“However we did take two points away from the game which could prove vital.”

Meanwhile second-placed Bognor picked up maximum points with a comfortable 66-0 home win over bottom side Alton.

Fordingbridge returned from Fareham Heathens with a 25-22 victory with Heathens picking up a couple of bonus points for their efforts.

  • New Milton outscored Old Tiffinians five tries to four in London 3 South-West but were beaten as the home side struck with three penalties.

Milton were 17-5 down at the break with Alex Everett-Bolter getting their first-half try.

A comeback looked on the cards after the interval with further tries from Tom Gould, Sam Bew and Ben Russell and a Ryan Morrell conversion.

However Tiffinians always kept their nose in front and ran out winners 27-24.
