TOTTONIANS maintained their six-point advantage in London 2 South West with a 45-12 success at Effingham.

Effingham still had a say in the game at half time, courtesy of three penalties, after tries from Totts’ wingers Scott Rogers and Faisil Mutiti, which were both converted by skipper Robbie Searle.

An Eagles drop goal shortly after the break got them to within two points – that prompted Tottonians into action rather than signalling a comeback by the home side.

Centre Mike Searle broke three tackles before feeding Richard Buck who placed down under the posts.

Mike Searle stripped an opponent of the ball before sprinting half the length of the pitch to dot down to bring up the bonus point.

Another try came after props Ian Gregory and Nathan Burns set up a ruck on the Eagles’ 22 and fullback Stu Davies split the defence to score.

Tottonians finished off their scoring with a try from Ali Ramus and penalty from Robbie Searle.

Coach Gavin Williams remarked: “We gave away a couple of unusual penalties to allow Effingham to put us under pressure.

“We turned around five points up and they started well with a drop goal, but after that it was all us.

“The main thing is that we do not panic. We have a game plan, or a series of game plans, and put them into action.

“I wouldn’t say the second half performance was our best of the season, but it was not far off.”
