FORMER Hampshire star Neil McKenzie could be on the verge of his fifth t20 success.

McKenzie starred for Hampshire when they first won the t20 cup in 2010 on home soil at The Ageas Bowl, and was again in the side when the county claimed the silverware again in 2012.

He is currently skippering Lions in his native South Africa’s Ram Slam Challenge tournament.

McKenzie, who recently celebrated his 39th birthday, has so far led Lions to six wins and three losses ahead of today’s final group qualifier against Knights.

Lions, who have already qualified for the semi-finals, have a stellar name at the top of their order.

West Indian big hitter Chris Gayle was signed up for the 2014/15 Challenge, and he is the team’s top scorer so far with 252 runs from seven innings at 40.33.

Included in that total is a 55-ball unbeaten 108 in Lions’ ten-wicket thrashing of a Warriors side who included Somerset’s Craig Kieswetter.

McKenzie is Lions’ second top scorer with 195 runs from eight innings at 27.85.

McKenzie has twice previously won South Africa’s t20 tournament with Lions, in 2007 and 2013. He was also on the losing side in 2010 and 2012.

McKenzie also helped Lions to the 2012 Champions League final, where they lost to the Sydney Sixers.
