Tottonians’ 7-0 success at Weybridge Vandals may have been a low scoring victory, but there was plenty of entertainment in the tactical London 2 South-West battle.

The important away victory keeps Totts right on the shoulders of leaders London Cornish – who won again at the weekend – as the sides fight for top spot.

Tottonians and Vandals cancelled each other out in a pointless first half with neither side managing to keep the ball long enough to create an opening in heavy conditions.

The deadlock was broken a couple of minutes into the second half when Harry Dolbear’s show-and-go at the back of a ruck put him into space. He passed to Mike Wisnewski who sprinted up to the opposition ten-metre line before off loading to Iuean Williams who brushed aside two tackles to score close to the posts. Captain Robbie Searle converted.

Totts then had a concerted period of pressure for 20 minutes and were awarded three penalties in front of the posts. Each time they opted to continue playing until the advantage disappeared and Vandals regained possession.

The decision appeared as if it would be costly as Vandals pummelled Totts’ line for the final ten minutes but the resolute visitors’ defence held out.
