Trojans are making a slow but sure climb up the London 3 South-West table.

The Stoneham Lane side, relegated two seasons on the trot, have stopped a string of defeats with a couple of much-needed victories.

The latest came at home – a 24-8 win over New Milton to back up the previous success at Sandown & Shanklin.

Play was pretty even for the opening half hour with Trojans playing against the blustery conditions. They opened the scoring when centre Will Purkiss touched down following a five-metre scrum.

But it was the visitors who had the advantage after 40 minutes – Jacob Dear converted a penalty and Alex Everett-Bolter ran in a try from halfway.

However, the second half was a different story. Winger Tobias Colthart scored a try for Trojans after six minutes, flanker Lewis Bourke touched down after quarter-of-an-hour and Number 8 Simon Greenhalgh brought up the bonus point score – Purkiss converting two of them.

Only stout Trojans defending kept Milton off the scoreboard as they battled on over the last ten minutes.

Andover followed up the previous week’s home success with their first away win of the season, 41-15 at Old Tonbridgians.

Once again, the power of the Andover pack and the pace and guile of their young backs was too much for the opposition.

Two tries each from the evergreen Marc Wilding and Niko Rowe led the charge, with Matt Moore and Charlie Waite both grabbing one apiece. The 17-year-old full back also added four conversions and a penalty in a man of the match performance.
