Winchester’s tough start to the season continues tomorrow when they travel to KCS Old Boys.

The Surrey opponents sit in fourth place in London 2 South-West having earned promotion last season – dropping just one game on their way to second place in SW3.

Winchester are still smarting after pushing leaders London Cornish all the way seven days ago – eventually losing by a point.

They also gave Tottonians – currently in second place – a hard game on the opening day before losing and followed that up with a comfortable victory over Tadley.

Head coach Andy Fields has some tricky selection decisions ahead of tomorrow’s game.

Former London Irish and England under-16 number eight Charlie Gardner is in line for his debut and Matt Golding, who impressed for the University when they played Winchester 2nds recently, may also get some time in the second row.

Hopes are high that hooker Kris Searle will be deemed fit to play.

Tottonians are likely to face a stern test when they take on third-placed Effingham & Leatherhead at Water Lane.

Both sides boast a 100 per cent record after three fixtures but Tottonians have a far superior points difference, having conceded just 11 points so far.

Coach Gavin Williams said: “Games between us are always hotly contested and we know we will have to be on top form to keep our unbeaten win going.

“The most encouraging thing from last week’s 50-point win was how the players reacted to conceding a couple of sloppy late scores.

“We are very proud of our strong defence and the players will be keen to maintain that.”

London 3 South-West leaders Eastleigh make the short trip through the New Forest to Ellingham & Ringwood.

Eastleigh captain Paul Fudio is well aware that his team is returning to the scene of their Gales HSB Hampshire Bowl win earlier in the year and the home side will be looking for revenge.

He said: “We have put a strong squad out after a lot of selection headaches.

“Also, we are expecting somewhat of a backlash from Ellingham after the cup final we played there last season.”

Centre Matt Blackman will sit the match out after receiving a head injury in last weekend’s RFU Senior Cup defeat but Dan Achilles is back in the side after a back injury.

Trojans are propping up the table with Sandown & Shanklin just one place above them.

The sides come face-to-face tomorrow when Trojans travel to the Island while Andover head to the capital to take on Teddington.
