WILL Smith was named Hampshire’s Players’ Player of the Year at the county’s end-of-season do.
Smith completed a memorable first season at Hampshire when he receiving the main award for an outstanding first season on a night that saw the county continue their celebrations following promotion to the LV County Championship’s first division.
The 31 year-old former Durham batsman made a career-best total of 1,187 Championship runs at 51.6, including two centuries.
And county cricket’s signing of the season was the surprise package in the T20 Blast, taking 20 wickets with his off-spin as Hampshire reached a record fifth successive Finals Day.
James Vince was awarded Batsman of the Year after scoring more runs than any other batsman in the country – an aggregate of 2,065 across the formats, including 1,525 at 61 in the Championship.
The Bowler of the Year award was shared by James Tomlinson and Matt Coles.
Tomlinson took 47 Championship wickets, included a promotion-clinching 6-48 against Glamorgan, while Matt Coles claimed 41 and was Hampshire’s most successful T20 seamer.
