Hampshire have signed former England batsman Owais Shah for the NatWest T20 Blast. The 35-year-old will initially sign on a match-to-match contract.

Hampshire Director of Cricket, Giles White said: “We are missing a few of players at the moment so we have brought in Owais, who is a player with a lot of experience and a lot of quality.

“He’s someone we had spoken to during the winter and with Neil McKenzie not coming back this year he’s certainly been on our radar.”

The former Essex and Middlesex batsman is hugely experienced in the shorter format with almost 200 twenty20 appearances to his name. Shah recently featured alongside former Hampshire T20 captain Dimi Mascarenhas for the Hobart Hurricanes in the 2013/14 Australian Big Bash.
