Romsey Rugby Club’s second team produced a fine display of running rugby in the spring sunshine to defeat Nomads 95-0.

Hosts Romsey started brightly and swift hands saw the ball moved to debutant Rich Ryan on the wing, who became the second player this year to score with his first touch of the ball in a Romsey shirt. Gerry Francis then received a pass from Nick Creal five metres from the line, to crash over for a converted try to extend the lead.

Some excellent handling from Jamie Glanville and Creal moved the ball wide to Will Farthing to score his first try of the day before Jacob Connelly barrelled through for another try followed soon after by the returning Duncan Cooper who scored out wide beating all the wings for the line.

Nomads then lost a player and the reshuffle sparked them into life with Romsey forced to defend their line.

Two more tries for Ryan before half time meant that it was 41-0 at the break.

Tries came at regular intervals throughout the second period with Farthing adding a second half hat-trick, Connolly a second and Ryan a fourth.

Also getting over the whitewash were both the second half substitutes – Ash Snow and Gus Layton – who powered their way up the middle for tries, and Dan Murrant who showed what a good winger should do and outpaced his opposite number on the outside to score.

All the second half tries were converted for a final score of 95-0 with Farthing successful twice and Layton five times, with the only miss coming from in front of the post from Creal, the kick falling under the bar with probably one of the worst kicks ever seen in Romsey history.
