Trojans Rugby Club are launching a recruitment campaign to plug a hole in their youth system.
The oldest club in the region has thriving membership throughout its men’s and women’s section, apart from girls of secondary school age.
Officials are about to create a new section for girls of that age in the hope that they will eventually filter into the successful women’s side which plays in the Women’s Championship, a very high standard just one level below the premiership.
Spokesman Lee Foster said: “Trojans have long had a very strong mini and youth section, taking youngsters through the age groups and enjoying rugby as part of their growing up.
“Until now, though, there had been a missing link for the females and we have corrected this by starting up a girls’ team.”
The new venture starts on Sunday, March 9, at 1pm, at the Trojans’ Stoneham Lane ground in Eastleigh.
