DIMI Mascarenhas is set to make his Hobart Hurricanes debut in a must-win Big Bash clash against the Melbourne Stars, after recovering from a sickening injury.

The former Hampshire captain was targeting the BBL semi-finals as his comeback after his jaw was fractured when he was hit by a bouncer in training a month ago.

But Hobart’s assistant coach has made good progress so was named in a 13-man squad to play the BBL’s form team.

Hobart’s penultimate group game will be played tomorrow morning, with the Hurricanes needing to end the Stars’ perfect record to boost their hopes of qualifying for the last four.

Hurricanes coach Damien Wright, who played for the Stars alongside Mascarenhas last year, said: “Dimi was a big part of our plans at the start of the season and obviously we had to adapt when he was ruled out.

“It will be great to have Dimi out on the field for us, not only for his bowling ability but also having his T20 knowledge out on the ground will be invaluable to us in a game that could make or break our season.”

If Hobart lose tomorrow they could still qualify by winning their last group game against Brisbane Heat on Thursday.
