Surrey trip holds no fears for Totts
Tottonians have made a couple of tweaks to their squad which heads for Surrey in search of a fourth win in a row.
Totts take on Effingham & Leatherhead who have a solitary London 2 South-West bonus point to their name so far.
Injury has forced a couple of changes but coach Gavin Williams says ‘none of them dilute the quality of the team’.
Pete Belasco makes a start and Nick Wood takes a place on the bench following a week away. Brendan Streather makes his league debut on the wing.
Williams said: “It’s always a hard game away against the Eagles but we go confidently and are intent on continuing our promising start to the season.”
Winchester coach Andy Fields is waiting for fitness reports from two exciting backs, Josh Cutteridge and Australian new recruit Nick Fielding, before finalising his selection to take on 2SW leaders Guildford at North Walls.
“Nobody expects anything of us on Saturday”, said Fields. “But we’re often at our best when that’s the case”.
Fields is keen to try out Winchester University student Josh Mitchell at loose-head prop.
“He has something about him”, he said, “and at the other end of the age range, I’m pleased that the evergreen second row Campbell Ettinger is available after missing out last week.”
Portsmouth are rock bottom of London 2SW without a point and Trojans have just a draw to their name after three matches.
Trojans’ Lee Foster said: “They (Portsmouth) are going to be desperate. We are not desperate but very keen to get a win.
“I think it is going to be an old-fashion derby with no quarter given and no quarter taken.”
