MICHAEL Carberry continued his love affair with Taunton by hitting the highest England Lions score of his career.
The Hampshire star boosted his chances of playing in next week's T20 interantional at the Ageas Bowl by making 146 (132 balls, 18 fours, four sixes) as the Lions beat Bangladesh A by 191 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series, which concludes on the same ground tomorrow.
Carberry’s fourth Lions hundred and first for five years was also his fourth in seven matches there for Hampshire.
It laid the foundations for a daunting 50-over total of 367-3 and featured an opening partnership of 70 from 81 balls with Hampshire teammate James Vince (28) and 185 from 165 balls with James Taylor , who contributed an unbeaten 106 (100 balls) .
Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes smashed 70 between them at more than two-a-ball to ensure Bangladesh A would need more than seven an over.
Chris Jordan's 4-38 put the result beyond doubt and Carberry completed a memorable day by taking the final wicket, bowling Al-Amin Hossain, the man who finally dismissed him, with his fourth ball.
Danny Briggs was the only bowler not to take a wicket as the tourists were all out for 176, but finished his ten-over allocation with respectable figures of 0-36.
Carberry, Vince and Briggs be available for Hampshire’s must-win final YB40 group game at Derby on Monday, where two points would secure the Royals another semi-final.
