Maxwell continues his remarkable rise
3:05pm Monday 4th March 2013 in Southampton
Glenn Maxwell in action for South Wilts CC
Former Hampshire star Glenn Maxwell has continued his remarkable rise by taking four wickets on his Test debut in India.
This time last year, the all-rounder was preparing for his first season with South Wilts CC in the Southern Electric Premier League.
But earlier today he took 4-127 in his first Test appearance, in Hyderabad.
Maxwell won a place in Australia's one-day and Twenty20 sides after starring for Hampshire last year.
And he became a $1m IPL player when he was bought by the Mumbai Indians last month. But he has now impressed in the longer form on the sub-continent after replacing Mitchell Starc in Australia's Test side. Batting at eight, he was out for 13 as Australia were dismissed for 237 in the second Test of their series in India.
India were eventually out for 503 in reply, but it would have been more had it not been for Maxwell's dismissals of Murali Vijay (167), Virat Kohli (34), MS Dhoni (44) and Ravindra Jadeja (10).
Despite the off-spinner's efforts, Australia began their second innings 266 runs behind and were 74-2, still 192 behind, at stumps on the third day.
They lost the first Test by eight wickets in Chennai last week.
