NEW signing Richard Logan got his first goal for Wanderers after asking to play against Staines Town.

The former Exeter man wasn't initially included in the squad but he felt short of match fitness after picking up a hamstring strain in Blues' first friendly against Farnborough.

Playing the target man's role, he nodded home Grant Basey's cross to open his Wanderers account as his new club came from behind to beat the non leaguers.

He said after the game he hoped getting on the scoresheet for the first time would relieve some of the pressure on him.

The 30-year-old said: "You want to be scoring. It takes you into the season. For me as a forward you get worried if you're not scoring. There's a bit of pressure as each game goes. The fans are thinking, 'Who's this guy? He ain't scored a goal yet'. It's good for me, it's confidence for the season.

"I wasn't meant to be in the squad actually but I asked the gaffer if I could have 45 minutes because I got injured in the first game. I felt like I needed it after Forest Green [in the second friendly]. I felt tired and need to get game time, so I went out there, got 60 minutes under my belt. It was nice to get a goal as well."

Logan said he is equally at home playing as a target man or by dropping deeper as a second striker.

He said: "If we've got people who cross the ball like Basey did there - I thrive on that sort of delivery. If we get balls in the box I'll be there to try and head them in. I like to try and play as well but that's my bread and butter.

"At Forest Green I played a deeper role. If I play up top I feel I can score more goals for the team. You've got to play different roles - it depends what the gaffer wants for each team.

"I don't really look at targets but you try, as a striker, to get double figures."
