GERRARDS Cross HC U18s beat Reading, Oxford and Southgate to finish third out of 43 teams in the Mercian Home Counties Colts Hockey League finals at Oxford on May 6.
Up against a much-fancied Woking side in the semi-finals, they started superbly with a Stevie Crowther goal rocking their opponents.
An equaliser before half-time steadied Woking nerves though, and a short corner goal early in the second half put them in front.
Cross flooded forward in search of an equaliser, but the game was put beyond doubt when Woking scored on the counter-attack in the last minute.
However, Cross bounced back to beat Lewes in the third place play-off.
After conceding against the run of play, Marcus Wilson equalised and then Craig Baillie capitalised on some superb goalkeeping from Josh Hodges to score a second.
Liam Queally made certain with a third goal after Lewes had taken off their keeper for an extra outfield player. Individually, Hodges was named goalkeeper of the tournament.
