NEW kid on the block Matty Whichelow said he was delighted to join the Wanderers debut goalscoring club.
The Watford loanee headed home a first-half equaliser before turning provider for Gareth Ainsworth’s winner as the Blues battled back from a goal down to take three priceless points against Tranmere.
The sprightly forward etched his name on the list of Chairboys to score on their full debut with his 23rd minute leveller - joining James Tunnicliffe, Marcello Trotta, Anthony McNamee and Jordon Ibe in the exclusive club.
He said: “I heard about the tradition of the new players coming in and scoring so I had to keep up with that. I’m happy to score and happy the team got the win.”
The 20-year-old admitted he was disappointed to leave Vicarage Road but jumped at the chance to see first-team action at Adams Park.
Whichelow said he spoke to Anthony McNamee and Marvin McCoy before making the trip around the M25 and has been impressed with what he had seen so far.
He said: “All the lads put their body on the line and you could see that with the two goal line clearances.
"I thought everyone was superb, so to come in and see that sort of desire was a good thing for me.”
The transfer deadline day capture linked up particularly well with Stuart Beavon during Saturday’s win, with Rovers boss Les Parry admitting the diminutive duo caused the Merseysiders “all sorts of problems”.
Whichelow believes the partnership can fire the Blues up the table.
He said: “I enjoyed it [playing with Beavon]. He talked to me throughout the game and I thought it was quite a good partnership.
“I just want to play as much as possible, score some goals and help Wycombe up the table.”
