TOM Rees thinks France are the real deal, but insists England have what it takes to win in Paris tonight.
France will complete the Grand Slam if they win, while England have failed to win either of their past two matches.
But the Wasps club captain, who many think will captain England one day, says Martin Johnson’s team have the raw materials to cause a major upset.
He said: “England’s game against Wales was a real positive.
“Since then they haven’t executed as they’d have wanted to but I still think, in terms of talent and potential, it’s all there and what better way to show it than derailing France’s Grand Slam plans.
“I think they’re capable of it and it’s a real chance for England to go out and test exactly how good this France team is. France have not shown any of the signs of inconsistency that make people wonder what French side is going to turn up – they look like they’re the genuine article – but that’s better for England going into this game.
“People will be writing them off and it’s a real opportunity for them to show what they’re capable of.”
And Rees says the six changes Johnson has made could galvanise the team, particularly Ben Foden.
He said: “When he came on against Scotland he looked a guy who was determined to do what he’s been doing at Premiership level and throw caution to the wind.
“There is a lift around the team whenever Ben Foden is involved.”
