ANOTHER medal winning Olympian has joined the ranks of the patrons of Marlow Sports Club.

Alex Danson, a member of the England and Great Britain women's field hockey team, took a bronze medal at London 2012 and joins sporting luminaries like Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Clive Woodward and Andrew Strauss as club patron.

She is one of the youngest ever England internationals, having made her senior debut at just 16 years of age, whilst still at school and is also a former BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year nominee with more than185 international caps to date.

Chairman Paul Sambrook explained he was please the club's new patron helped to reflect it's popularity across both genders. He said: "The Club now has over 800 female members, so it is fantastic to have such a current female International sportsperson agreeing to be so involved. "We are incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive portfolio of Patrons."

More than 2,000 people from the area use the club each week, of which 1400 are youngsters.

The club purchased the freehold at its Pound Lane site in the spring of 2011 and became a charity. It offers cricket, hockey, tennis, running, cycling, football and netball but the board of trustees has been looking for ways to open up the Club for wider community use and continue to raise money towards their fundraising programme.

To date, they have seen the £500,000 milestone reached of the £1.2 million cost of buying the land and building the all-weather pitch.
