SAMANTHA Amend made it five wins in a row at the Marlow Half Marathon today and revealed how hard the soaking conditions had made the course.

The Marlow runner, who has competed internationally for England, overcame an achilles problem and flu to triumph in the ladies section.

Amend came eleventh overall in the race which started and finished at the fields of Sir William Borlase's Grammar School in West Street/Oxford Road.

Everyone's focus after the race was on the tricky pitfalls of the course, caused by huge downpours.

Runners said parts of the route were flooded.

Amend told the BFP: “It's a challenging course anyway.

“But I lost the feeling in my feet quite a few times. One of the organisers was saying he took his Land Rover Discovery through the course earlier and the water was literally up to the tyre mark.

“He said maybe we should do a triathlon and I had a little chuckle and said if it was a few more inches we probably could.

“I enjoyed it and it was probably the hardest half marathon I've done this year.”
