The 2013 Napier Cup took place at Tidworth Garrison GC on May 18 and 19 where the field was limited to 75 members with the best 39 making the cut for the second day in this Stableford competition. The weather was excellent on both days and the course was in stunning condition and at the end of the first day, several players produced below handicap play to post scores in excess of 36 points. The overnight leaders were Matthew Redgrave - one of the club's younger players with a handicap of four - and Andrew Gregory playing off 15, each producing an eye-watering 42 points. They were closely followed with 40 from Steve Box (10) and Brian Cook (14). Another young player, Owen Lewis playing off 14 and Peter Overton (9) were also in contention with 39. The second round usually provides a few surprises and some suspense - this year was no different. Dean Wrixon, who had scored 36 points in the first round and started his second round an hour earlier than the leaders, produced one of the two best scores of 40 and was the early leader in the clubhouse. Neither Box nor Cook could maintain Saturday’s momentum and Redgrave required 35 or better to secure the trophy. He had 18 at the turn and parred the next six holes but with three to play he bogeyed the 16th. However, in taking a par four on the tricky 17th made the trophy unknowingly his. Even finishing with a bogey on the 18th, his card of 36 points gave him a two point victory over Wrixon.

Amport II v Shrewton III. The torrential downpour at 12.30 put the game in doubt, but the well-crafted pitch, square and outfield together with a drying wind meant only a small delay to the start of the 2013 season. A 37 over game was set in motion with nine man Shrewton surprisingly choosing to bat. The Amport opening attack of Sam Birks and debutant Rory Griffen struggled at first until Birks struck twice to leave Shrewton 26-2.
