Dry Donington for 'Most Improved' Dawn
7:29am Wednesday 30th May 2012 in Sport
Round three of the Dunlop Ford Fiesta Championship was at Donington Park, and finally it was a dry event for Andover’s girl racer Dawn Boyd.
Dawn struggled to pull together several good corners to create a full lap and qualified in 19th place. However the start of race one saw her sprint off the line and gain four places in 100 yards, and this time she kept them.
A race long battled ensued as places were exchanged cleanly for eight laps of a great race until the very last lap when Dawn was side by side holding position going into a corner and the car ahead took a long slow turn and Dawn and the car beside had to brake very hard. She managed to stop but the car beside her smashed into the one in front, Dawn clipped their bumper and knocked the steering. She limped home to a creditable 14th place.
Race two and it was still dry and Dawn was upbeat but with the steering damaged from the earlier race, she messed up a few fast corners gaining herself a five second penalty for exceeding track limits. She had a good race and kept several cars behind her, coming home in a very successful 12th place. Dawn was awarded “Most Improved” driver of the day for the most race places gained from qualifying slot.
There are plenty more races to come, the next is at Cadwell Park and for further information and the chance to sponsor Andover’s only girl racer, get in touch at www.dawnontrack.co.uk.
