A packed Hayward Suite is expected tomorrow when Arron Monk chases a third successive victory and a £500 winner’s purse in the defence of his famous father’s competition, the Colin Monk Classic Ranking Singles, sponsored by JM White Plastering and the Wolversdene Club.
Last year’s victory was over county colleague Ricky Williams and Paul Cook was defeated in the 2010 final. Other winners include the talented ‘Cookie’, Paul Gibbs and Gary Scratchley.
The field will comprise of many top regional players and will include another top Andover darter, Jeff White who is also co-sponsor of the event. Organisers will, for the first time, include a ‘blind pairs’ competition to run alongside the main event which will include the main club playing area for the pairs.
Entries will be taken on the day up to 11.30am; players will toe the oche at 12.15. Fees for the singles will be £7 and a further £3 for the pairs. There is £500 guaranteed to the singles winner, paying down to the last eight, and the pairs’ prize fund will depend on the number of entries.
