New Street travelled to Tadley on the back of a victory over the league leaders East Cowes Vics to the team at the foot of the table. However, Tadley’s results have improved of late and the Street management where under no illusions that this would be a walk in the park.
Both sides testing each other out but the visitors were slightly edging the possession but on 20 minutes a free-kick just outside the penalty area caught the defence out and Peter White dived in to score bravely. Street responded quickly with a Dallardo shot just wide but then disaster struck again on the half-hour when a fierce cross found White who gave Alex Thompson no chance. Street did get the ball in the net courtesy of Steve Caswell but it was disallowed, however, with minutes left of the half, Stuart Anderson fired home from close in to give the visitors a lifeline. On the hour Anderson volleyed home a corner to the visible delight of his teams mates and Andover New Street were sensing a deserved victory. Minutes later some neat football found Dallardo who turned scored a superb goal to give his team the lead.
In the last 15 minutes the visitors consolidated their lead when Pa Touray finished off another fine move and the match looked safe as they continued to dominate. Then with just minutes left Thompson pulled down White who dispatched the penalty for his hat-trick, and the visitors were in for a nervous final period when the match seemed dead and buried. However, they survived and added another three deserved points to take them up fifth in the league.
