History was made at last weekend’s Sidecar Motocross Association (SMCA) annual dinner dance and awards night when Jo Reynolds became the first ever female to be awarded the Best Newcomer Passenger trophy.

Jo, from Shipton Bellinger, at only 17 completed her first full season in the sport with her driver Steve Pannell, from West Sussex. They finished a creditable 17th in the Clubman’s Championship out of 35 entrants, with many of the teams behind them of her consisting of experienced and more mature riders. Another local rider was also there to collect his trophy as third place in the SMCA British Clubman Championship was won by Martin Guilford from Broughton with his passenger Rob Batten.
