Billiards pairs debut

It was the first ever pairs competition in the Test Valley Billiard League and some of the results were a surprise.

Some players found it difficult to make any kind of break, due to the fact that they were waiting a while before getting their turn at the table. Father and son combination Paul and Lee Ayers were one doubles partnership that struggled losing out to uncle and nephew pairing Peter Ayers and Oliver Tabb.

The other father and son team of David and Richard Chase also lost out to the Cuemen pairing of Philip Langley and Shane Moore but at least one couple from Mottisfont got through to the next round as the Home Guard’s Peter Green and Paul Fleming had to forfeit their match to Graham Osman and Peter Holmes.

Ian Carpenter dragged his doubles partner Richard Stevens through to win their match up the Abbas against Martin Appleby and John Standfield. Clatford Cannons’ Paul Carpenter and Kevin Robson had to move their fixture against the Plains’ Alan Batchelor and Nigel Horne to the neighbours’ table up the road as the village club had been booked, but the change of venue didn’t help as they only managed to get 56 points on the board.

Korbin Lowe with partner Jay Ponting played their way into the next round beating Glynne Stevens and Joe Stockwell.
