New Street share eight at North End

New Street went into Thursday’s home clash with Tadley Calleva on the back of a six goal home defeat by Hythe and Dibden but showed no signs of a hangover.

Four chances came and went in the opening quarter of an hour with Nic Holloway, Prince Xhamelia, Vince Rusher and Nic Turpin all going close then defender Lance Cooper had an effort cleared off the line, but five minutes before half-time the pressure finally told when keeper Chris Waller could only parry a Holloway shot and Rusher tucked away the rebound.

Tadley slowly forced themselves back into the game and Ledger rolled the ball in after a defensive mistake. Tadley’s Ashley Perry hit the bar and New Street found themselves on the back foot for the remainder of the half. The game ended on a sour note as Tadley furiously contested an offside decision in the closing seconds leading to the dismissal of both Ian Cadman and Oli Chapman for abusive language, the latter after the final whistle.

On Saturday New Street went down 4-3 at home to top of the table Fawley after a battling performance.

The leaders took the lead within a minute through Matt Redman but Vinnie Rusher levelled from the penalty spot. A double before half-time from Ben Murphy should have put Fawley in control but New Street came back again and after Nic Turpin reduced the arrears another Rusher penalty made it 3-3. Fawley hit the bar and the post but it wasn’t until yet another penalty, five minutes from time from James Fry that Fawley snatched the points.

New Street’s heavy schedule continued on Tuesday night at Farnborough NE.

Despite once again travelling with a bare 11 and going behind to an early penalty, Street battled to an unlikely 4-4 draw with Nic Turpin completing a hat-trick with virtually the last kick of the game.

North End were 2-1 up at half-time after Turpin had levelled and by midway through the second half had built up a 4-1 lead. A rare Vinnie Rusher header made it 4-2 before Turpin struck twice more to bring home a richly deserved point.
