Chilbolton Cuemen were home to Clatford Cannons in the semi-final of the team knock-out Charity Shield.
George Carpenter opened against Cuemen’s Graham Ponting who was playing in his first game of the season and kept up with George throughout but couldn’t claw back the 40 point handicap and this gave George the game with a 20 plus lead to take into the next match.
Ian Carpenter fancied his chances against Philip Langley who was without a win for a few weeks and showed signs of improvement but Ian was not in a generous mood and took full advantage of any mistakes. Ian won with ease to put his team in a comfortable position with one left to play.
Cueman Jay Ponting needed to reach his target of 110 before the Cannons’ Kevin Robson could score 48 and even though Jay did win the game Kevin reached his target and put the Cannons into the final.
Clatford Plains beat Mottisfont at home in the other semi-final. Nigel Horne played consistent billiards to beat Ernie Jackson 100-26 to give the Plains a 74 point advantage going into the second game. Peter Holmes reduced the deficit to just 43 after beating Glynne Stevens which left both team captains to fight it out for the win.
Clatford’s Alan Batchelor only had to reach 145 before Graham Osman reached his full target of 147 and did it with minimum fuss to make it an all-Clatford affair in the final.
