11:16pm Tuesday 16th March 2010

Newly promoted Collingbourne Cricket Club are looking forward to competing in Wiltshire League Division 2 during the 2010 season. The club have to provide two qualified umpires and chairman David Paterson and secretary Karl Rogers have each successfully completed the ECB Level 1 umpire’s course. The first XI will once again be captained by Owen Shepherd with the second XI skippered by ex-Andover CC stalwart John Baxter, who will relish the challenge of mixing older and younger players to compete in Division 5. John has also developed a superb website for the club at www.collingbournecricketclub.co.uk.

In addition to Saturday league cricket the club also competes on Wednesdays in the Savernake Forest Evening League and also runs a very social Sunday XI.

At the end of May the club will be embarking on its 25th consecutive tour to South East Devon where they will play five fixtures renewing friendships and rivalries, based right on the seafront in Sidmouth.

The club enjoys excellent facilities on the recreation ground at Collingbourne Ducis and the teas provided by tea lady Jane Crook are renowned as some of the best in Wiltshire.

Anyone interested in playing cricket for a well structured village club is welcome to the indoor nets at the Wellington Academy sport centre in Ludgershall on Sundays March 21 and 28 and April 11 and 18 between 10.30am and noon at £3 per person. New members of any age and standard will be made especially welcome.
