Stockbridge 6 Fawley 2.
The enigma which is Stockbridge FC is clearly shown by the last two results.
Last Monday week they travelled to US Portsmouth, lost 3-0 and hardly had a shot on goal. This Saturday they hammered runaway leaders Fawley 6-2 and could have won by an even bigger margin after a superb second half show. Manager Stuart Thompson rested the successful front pairing of Simon Nelson and Ryan Boare and went with skipper Steve Witt and Mike Barker, back from injury, up front. The early stages saw nothing between the sides in a keenly fought contest but on 20 minutes the visitors took the lead from the penalty spot. Five minutes later Robins struck back when a cross from Witt found Barker who drove home. Just after the half hour a superb chip by Witt gave Stockbridge the lead but Fawley levelled on the break.
The second half saw Stockbridge on top and Witt made it 3-2 with a superbly curled free-kick from 18 yards. As Stockbridge drove forward Witt was denied by a great save and only a last ditch header stopped a Nick Coates effort. With Stockbridge well on top an inch perfect through ball from Coates found Barker who made it 4-2. Witt then saw his header go just wide before a cross from Coates was steered home by Barker to give him his hat-trick. A rare goal from Simon Poultney completed a very happy afternoon.
On Tuesday Stocks beat Ludgershall 3-2 in the Andover Open Cup with goals from Steve Witt 2 and Simon Nelson. Torrow they travel to in-form Fleet Spurs before visiting Horndean next Tuesday.
Whitchurch had a free day on Saturday but with a bare 11 players lost 2-0 on Tuesday at Alton Town in the Basingstoke Senior Cup.
