Andover kart racer Gary Catt will head to Las Vegas this weekend to compete in the USA supernationals kart race.
Gary, who races for the Italian Tonykart team will also be joined in the team by ex-Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher and two time world kart champion Marco Ardigo.
Also taking part are other Formula One stars Sebastian Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari and ex-Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr. It is the final race of 2009 for Catt who has had a fairly disappointing season by his standards and he will be hoping to end the year on a high by scooping the first prize of $20,000.
“It is a big race and there is also the added attraction of the Formula One stars competing too, Gary said. “It’s in a different category to the karts I race all season so it will be more difficult for me but we will start as one of the favourites so if we can get things working well there then for sure its possible to win. “To race in the same team as Michael Schumacher is fantastic - we’ve been testing a lot together in Italy over the last few weeks and its amazing to see the amount of attention he gets from the public and im sure it will be the same in Vegas.”
Gary, who finished second in the 2007 World FIA Kart Championship and third in 2008 will be hoping to make up for crashing in the final of the 2009 World Championship in Macau, Hong Kong.
Testing for the race began yesterday and the race is this Sunday.
