THE HIGHLIGHT of Longparish’s superb win at Bishops Waltham on Saturday was the third ton in as many weeks for 17-year old Stuart Tognarelli.
Evoking memories of Dennis Luff who scored 55 tons for ‘Parish and once hit three in two weeks, the youngster, who is expected to be leaving the area at the end of the season for the services, finished on 139 not out as his side chased down 209 for victory.
Bishops were in a reasonable position after 35 overs at 150-3 after winning the toss but deteriorated to 209-9 after 45 overs, the last six wickets going down for 20 runs. Six bowlers were used and all had good figures including Barry Blackmore 0-14 from six overs, Ross Stewart 2-48, Adam Siedman 1-47, Chris Clarke 0-23 and Tognarelli wih 1-39. However star man with the ball was Martin Savage with 3-29 from six overs.
In reply Longparish started poorly, losing George Kousseff second ball but from then it became the Tognarelli show as he despatched the Bishops Waltham attack to all parts of the Albany Road ground. Along with skipper Paul Blackmore, who played a secondary role they shared a second wicket partnership of 187, Blackmore departing after scoring 41.
Tognarelli eventually finished with 19 fours and five sixes leading Longparish to an eight wicket victory after 33 overs with 12 to spare.
