ANDOVER Town boss Glenn Burnett is enjoying the view from the top of the Sydenhams Premier League, but says it’s way too early to talk titles.

Last night’s 3-1 result at Team Solent made it three wins out of three for the Portway crew, hoisting them above Horndean on goal difference.

But there will be no shouting from the rooftops for former Romsey and Blackfield boss Burnett, who laughed: “We’ve had an alright start to the season, but Christmas is a long way away!

“I said from the start that there would be eight or nine sides having a push for the title.

“We finished 13th last season and we want to improve and push up a bit.

“We’ve got our targets but there’s so many sides that could be in the mix.

“From experience, I’m not even looking at the table yet. We’re happy with the start, but we’re three games into the season! It’s way too early.”

With Team Solent still waiting for some of their university players to arrive, it was an ideal time for Andover to play them.

Liam Gilbert squeezed between the centre-backs to head home Reece Rusher’s cross for 1-0 before Zach Glasspool’s penalty doubled Andover’s lead – his fifth goal in four league and cup games.

Giovanni Landu made it 2-1 on 31 minutes and Solent also hit the bar before Gilbert struck again with a clever chipped finish on the angle.

Andover also rattled the woodwork in each half.

The result leaves Solent nailed to the foot of the table without a point from four games, but Burnett said: “They played really well.

"I think they had some 16-year-olds involved and they were good footballers.

"They’re still waiting for their students to arrive to bolster them up and I’m sure, when they get their players back, they will be a force again.”
