BALKSBURY Junior School completed a league and cup double this week when they lifted the Andover Advertiser Town Schools Knockout Cup.

The talented team beat rivals Anton 5-1 in the final to lift the Advertiser sponsored cup for the third consecutive year.

Noah May was the star of the show, scoring all five of his side’s goals in the final, played at Portway Junior School this week.

Meanwhile, St Johns finished third in the competition with a narrow 1-0 victory over Whitchurch in the runner-up final.

The day concluded with a talk from league organiser, and Balksbury deputy head teacher, David Coombs, who thanked all of the schools for their participation.

He also thanked staff at Portway for hosting the event.

Mr Coombs was then joined by Advertiser journalist, James Robinson, who presented the trophy to Balksbury’s captain, Louis Harvey.

He said: “It’s a pleasure to be able to present the Advertiser Knockout Cup on behalf of the paper.

“The standard of football was really impressive and all of the players and managers should be really proud of their efforts.”

Mr Coombs, said: “The tournament has shown once more that we have a great amount of talented young people in our town schools.

“The spirit and enthusiasm they have shown when taking part is a credit to all the schools they represent.

“I would also like to thank the Andover Advertiser for supporting our local town schools football.

“We look forward to working with them next season as we hope to continue to give our youngsters these opportunities to take an active role in extra curricular team activities, that are both competitive and enjoyable.”
