ANDOVER New Street boss Dean Hutchins says his team are working hard to turn their fortunes around after they suffered their 12th league defeat of the season at home to Weymouth Reserves last weekend.

Street were beaten 3-0 by the Dorset side on Saturday as their difficult start to the Wessex League Division One continued.

Andover, who sit second from bottom in the league, have picked up just five points from their opening 15 games and have not won a game since their season opener against Fleet Spurs in early August.

However manager Dean Hutchins remains positive his side will pull through come the end of the season and has praised his players efforts so far.

He said: “I think it was always going to be a challenge this season.

“There are a lot of clubs in this league that are paying players and at New Street are not the kind of club that can shell out like that.

“So in terms of recruitment it is more difficult.

“But we have a fantastic group of players so it is disappointing what is happening.

“We’ve got to remain positive and work hard.

“We are also looking to bring in some players and we have been looking around of the last few days.”

In New Street’s most recent defeat the team showed promise in the opening 30 minutes, playing some good possession football.

However they conceded from a corner shortly after the hour mark when the towering Sean Stewart headed home from just outside the six yard box.

Andover were unfortunate to concede a second shortly before half time through an Owen Trapnell own goal.

A stinging strike from a Weymouth player rebounded off of the crossbar and into the face of Trapnell who could do little as the ball bounced into the back of his own net.

Street continued to battle on after the break, but were finished off in the 60th minute when substitute Sam Jackson struck the visitor’s third goal of the game.

The substitute scored in almost identical fashion to Stewart’s first half goal, heading home from close range after connecting with a corner.

Despite their best efforts, New Street could not find a way back into the game, which ended in a 3-0 defeat.

Hutchins added: “We’ve been unlucky a few times this season.

“At times we’ve played really well and had most of the possession but failed to take our chances.

“Then we’ve got to the 60th minute and conceded.

“That’s something we need to work on.”
