ANDOVER Town have appointed Glenn Burnett as their new first team manager, less than eight weeks after the appointment of previous boss John Robson.

The former Winchester City tactician has taken over the Portway hot-seat after Robson, who replaced Neil Benson as manager in July, was appointed to a new role within the club’s academy programme.

Burnett, who famously led Blackfield and Langley to the Wessex Premier League title in 2013, has brought in former Sholing player Zach Glasspool as his assistant.

The pair will be tasked with turning around Town’s poor start to the new league season, with the club sitting fourth from bottom with just four points from their opening six league games.

The manager has already made a winning start to his new job, as Town recorded a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in the Hants Senior Cup on Tuesday.

Andover Town chairman Stuart Barlow believes the change will be ‘positive’ for the club.

He said: “We’ve had a difficult start to the season.

“Four points from six games is not where we wanted to be, but John had a difficult time with injuries so struggled to get a regular side together.

Talking about the managerial changes at Andover Town, club chairman, Stuart Barlow, said: “John Robson will be staying with us and will be working closely with Neil Benson in driving talent through the academy.

“Glenn Burnett has been away from coaching for a few years but will bring in a lot of good experience.

“He was with Ashley Vickers when they won the Wessex League at Blackfield and Langley and Paul Masters at Winchester City.

“He is credited with helping to bring Romsey back from the brink.

He has achieved a lot at this level.

“It is a move forward for the club.

“With the way the league is this season I still think we can still be there or there-abouts.”
