GLORIOUS sunshine broke through the clouds as athletes young and old came out to compete in Andover Triathlon Club’s annual event.

The Andover Triathlon took place at Farleigh School, in Red Rice, on Sunday, July 10.

Rain threatened to spoil the annual event but the sun finally broke through during the day to ensure perfect conditions for the athletes – some as young as eight.

The morning was devoted to the adult sprint race covering 440m in the pool followed by a 30km bike and 8km run through the villages of Upper and Goodworth Clatford.

Winning in the male category was Patrick Brown with a time of 1hr 30mins and the female race was won by Emma Edwards in a time of 1hr 47mins.

The afternoon then made way for the future of the sport and the children’s race.

Starting at just eight years old, athletes were set off in 15 minute intervals to tackle a pool swim and then a bike and run route within the beautiful school grounds.

Friends and families gathered to cheer on some amazing young talent and there was a real festival feel as people soaked up the positive atmosphere.
