AN ANDOVER Judo club have had another successful weekend of competition, picking up four medals at a Hampshire-wide event.

Scorpion Judo Club recently competed at the Hampshire Closed Competition, which was held at Fleming Park Eastleigh.

The team, who train at Augusta Park Community Centre, took six members to the event, bringing home four medals, two of which were gold.

One of those to pick up gold on the day was Ella Plummer.

Fighting in the Girls U52kg category, the seasoned competitor started her competition positively, winning her fight with a fantastic throw scoring Ippon (10 point).

Plummer won two of her next three fights, approaching them all with the same cool and calm attitude, setting a brilliant example to the younger members of the team.

The three wins earned Ella gold in her category.

Meanwhile Daisy Warden and Fareya Martin fought in the Girls U32kg category.

Both girls had to fight five times in a large group.

Martin was defending the gold medal she won last year and stepped up to the mat very determined.

This showed in all her fights which she dominated from start-to-finish, displaying a very mature attitude and winning each of her fights with ease, winning gold on the day.

Warden, still new to competitive fighting, battled hard in each of her fights and gained valuable experience.

Elle Sturman took part the Girls U28kg category.

Fighting in her first competition, she started her day with a very determined performance in her opening fight, wining by holding down her opponent.

However inexperience showed in her second fight.

Despite this she came back stronger in her final fight, winning to earn a silver medal.

James Walker and Tom Van Dongen were representing Scorpion Judo Club in the Senior competition with both competing in their first Judo competition.

Walker was first to start in the Men’s U66kg, losing his opening fight.

However he came back in his next two fights, dominating in groundwork.

He won each with arm-lock submissions, earning him a bronze medal.

Meanwhile Van Dongen was competing in Mens U81kg, which turned out to be the hardest group of the day, facing fights against first and second Dan black belts.

Van Dongen had three extremely hard fights but stepped up to the challenge holding his own against strong opponents.

He took both the fights right to the end of the contest but missed out on a medal on this occasion.

Following the results of this competition both Sturman and Martin were selected to represent Hampshire at Inter County Competition this month.

The two Scorpion Judo girls helped the Hampshire Girls team to a bronze medal.
