LONGPARISH got their season off to a winning start, beating Hungerford by nine wickets thanks to a strong performance from William de Cani.

The Cardiff University student hit an unbeaten 83 to help his side over the line on Saturday, after their visitors posted an all out score of 153.

U16 talent Scott Sturt picked up the first wicket in the fourth over and with Harry Martin away, Ben Gardner took the new ball and bowled beautifully, taking 1 for 18 from six overs.

Hungerford’s overseas player, Ilmarr Larkham-February hung around for 46 before holing out to the bowling of Sam Trinder who finished with 2 for 27 from his eight overs.

Alex Coetzee has been turning out for the Bristol University side this spring and looked to be in the groove as he picked up 3 for 21 from seven overs.

The Longparish reply went well, bar the dismissal of Michael Taplin for a brisk 17.

Skipper Paul Blackmore bludgeoned an unbeaten 42 alongside de Cani’s 83.

Meanwhile Longparish II fell to a three wicket defeat to Rowledge III.

Dan Bearpark struck 51 and Barry Blackmore 52 as the Longparish innings closed on 209.

But Rowledge replied well, securing a win with four balls left.
