ANDOVER Ladies Touch Rugby Team kept their Hampshire O2 Touch Rugby Series title dreams alive with a tournament win at Fordingbridge.

The Ladies impressed at the home of their title rivals, winning all but one game in the competition.

The day opened up for the Ladies with a 2-0 win over Farnborough.

Next up were Fareham and, unusually for Andover, the Ladies were found wanting in defence conceding two tries in the game.

However quick restarts at the breakdown saw the girls maintain a lead throughout, with the game finishing 3-2.

Next up were newcomers Gosport and Fareham in a tight game decided by a single try from Susan Mitchell.

However Andover perhaps should Andover RFC’s 3rd XV run in a first half try in their 32 - 13 win over Alresford 2nds at Foxcotte Park have won by a slightly bigger margin after a great period of pressure during which Aga Tyszewicz dived over the line, only for the try to be ruled out.

Andover tightened up their game against Aldershot and Fleet.

Driving deep into the opponents half, Andover kept the pressure on were rewarded with three tries to Aldershot’s single effort from their pacey winger.

The penultimate game was a tense match against rivals Fordingbridge.

Again Andover’s defensive alignment was found lacking and Fordingbridge went through just before the break to score the opening try.

The second half was much the same, with both sides using their five touches to drive deep into each other’s half.

A moment of pressure and a fast restart from dummy half saw captain Abbie Goddard catch her opposition offside. Reacting to the referee’s call, Abbie raced for the line to even up the score on the blow of the final whistle.

The last game of the day was against Basingstoke.

Andover made hard work of the game against a side that, whilst improving, is still very new to touch rugby.

However the Ladies still came out 2-0 winners to secure another tournament win after amassing a total of 12 tries across their four games Andover Ladies are now level at the top of the table with Fordingbridge Ladies, with both sides having three tournament wins each.

The league will now be decided between Andover and Fordingbridge at the final competition which will be held on Sunday, May 29 at Fareham RFC.
